The New Kia Seltos: Is This the Best Way to Spend ₹25 Lakh?

The New Kia Seltos: Is This the Best Way to Spend ₹25 Lakh?

Let's be honest for a second.

If someone gives you ₹25 lakh to spend on a car, there are a LOT of options.

You can get a bigger SUV. You can get something faster. You can get a seven-seater. You can even start looking at entry-level luxury cars.

So why would anyone spend that kind of money on a Kia Seltos?

Because the new Seltos might just be one of those cars where, after you've got four wheels on the ground, there really isn't much else you actually need.

And no, I'm not saying it's perfect.

But as an overall package, the new Seltos is ridiculously difficult to ignore.

It Looks Bigger Than It Actually Is

The first thing Kia has absolutely nailed is the design.

The Seltos isn't a massive SUV. In fact, that's one of its biggest advantages.

But park it next to other cars and it somehow manages to look like something much larger.

A big reason for that is the long hood and the proportions.

The front end gives the Seltos a proper SUV stance, while the wide body and squared-off design make it look substantial on the road.

The new Seltos measures 4,460 mm in length and 1,830 mm in width, giving it a noticeably bigger presence than the Seltos we've known before.

Then you add the new lighting signature, the large grille, the aggressive bumpers and those big wheels on the higher variants, and suddenly this doesn't feel like a "compact SUV" anymore.

It looks expensive.

And that's important when you're spending ₹20–25 lakh on a car.

The Interior Is Where Things Get Serious

Step inside and the Seltos starts making even more sense.

Kia has gone all-in on the premium cabin experience.

The dashboard is modern, the displays are huge and the overall cabin feels like it belongs in a car considerably more expensive than this.

The panoramic display is one of the first things you notice.

Then you have features like the panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, premium audio, wireless charging, connected-car technology and a whole bunch of convenience features depending on the variant.

And this is where I think the Seltos has a major advantage.

You're not buying a car and thinking:

"Damn, I wish it had this."

Instead, you're sitting inside it thinking:

"What else do I actually need?"

It Has Basically Every Feature You Could Ask For

And Kia has absolutely gone crazy with the feature list.

The Seltos can be equipped with things like a panoramic sunroof, digital displays, ventilated seats, premium Bose audio, wireless charging, connected-car technology, 360-degree camera functionality and advanced driver assistance features depending on the variant.

Then there's ADAS.

On the higher variants, the Seltos gets advanced driver assistance technology designed to make highway driving and everyday driving less stressful.

And that's the thing about the Seltos.

Individually, none of these features are going to make you buy the car.

But when you put all of them together, you end up with an SUV that feels incredibly complete.

And Thankfully, It Isn't Just a Feature Box

This is probably the most important part.

The Seltos isn't one of those cars where Kia has thrown 50 features at you and forgotten about the actual driving experience.

You get proper engine choices.

The Indian Seltos range includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel, with different transmission options depending on the engine and variant.

That means you can choose the Seltos according to how you actually drive.

Want something simple and relaxed?

There's the naturally aspirated petrol.

Want more performance?

The turbo-petrol is the one to look at.

Want that low-end torque and long-distance efficiency?

There's the diesel.

And honestly, the turbo-petrol is probably the engine I'd want if I'm spending close to ₹25 lakh.

Because if your SUV looks this good, you might as well have the performance to match it.

It Has Enough Power

This isn't a sports car.

And it doesn't need to be.

The Seltos is supposed to be a car you can drive to work on Monday, take your family out for dinner on Wednesday and disappear onto the highway on Sunday.

And that's exactly where the Seltos makes sense.

There's enough power for everyday driving, enough performance for highway overtakes and enough refinement to make long-distance driving comfortable.

You're not constantly thinking about the engine.

And that's actually a good thing.

A good everyday car should just work.

It's Practical Without Being Huge

This is another thing I really like about the Seltos.

You get the presence of an SUV without having to live with the size of a massive SUV.

The increased dimensions give it a more substantial cabin and road presence, while its overall footprint remains manageable for everyday city driving.

And then there's the boot.

With a 447-litre boot, there's enough room for the normal family stuff — luggage, shopping, backpacks and everything else that somehow ends up inside an SUV.

You don't need to drive a giant seven-seater just because you want practicality.

Sometimes five seats and a good boot are enough.

And Then There's the Safety

This is something that shouldn't be ignored.

Kia has loaded the Seltos with modern safety equipment, and the new Seltos has also achieved a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.

Six airbags are standard, while the higher variants add more advanced safety and driver-assistance technology.

So you're not just getting a flashy interior and a long feature list.

There's substance underneath it too.

But Here's the Real Question: Is It Worth ₹25 Lakh?

This is where things get interesting.

Because ₹25 lakh is serious money.

At that point, you should be asking whether the car gives you enough to justify spending that much.

And I think the Seltos makes a very strong argument.

Because what are you actually getting?

A good-looking SUV.

A premium interior.

A massive feature list.

Multiple engine options.

Good performance.

Modern safety technology.

A comfortable cabin.

A practical boot.

A manageable size.

A strong road presence.

And enough technology to make you feel like you've bought something properly premium.

That's a lot of car.

But It Isn't Perfect

Of course, there are reasons you might look elsewhere.

If you absolutely need three rows of seats, this isn't your car.

If you want a proper off-roader, look somewhere else.

If your priority is maximum performance, there are better options.

And if you're spending ₹25 lakh purely because you want the biggest possible SUV, the Seltos probably isn't going to satisfy you.

But that's not what the Seltos is trying to be.

It's trying to be the complete package.

And that's what makes it so good.

The Seltos Makes Sense

I think the best way to describe the new Seltos is simple:

It gives you almost everything you would actually want from a normal car.

It looks good.

It feels premium.

It's packed with technology.

It has enough power.

It's comfortable.

It's practical.

It's safe.

It's easy enough to live with in the city.

And it can comfortably handle the highway.

You don't necessarily need more.

And that's why, if you're sitting with around ₹25 lakh and looking for one car that can do almost everything, the new Kia Seltos deserves to be very high on your list.

Because sometimes spending more money doesn't necessarily mean getting a better car.

Sometimes it just means getting a bigger version of what you already need.

And the Seltos gets something very important right:

It gives you enough of everything.

Not the most of everything.

Just enough.

And honestly?

For most people, that's exactly what a great car should be.
